Nov. 17 - phoned Diocese of Peterborough who said to phone back on Mon. and ask for archives #705-7455123.
Nov. 19 - phoned Diocese of Peterborough who said he was on loan from Diocese of Toronto, phone #416-9340606.
Nov. 19 - they have a Joseph Louis Arthur Cote ordained Sept. 11, 1895 from the Diocese of Sherbrook, Quebec serving the Rockforest area. Sherbrook Diocese #819-5639934 extension 204 ask for Christiane. Christiane Racette will look him up and give me any info. if I phone back tomorrow.
Nov. 20 - phoned Christiane - she has Joseph Cote and will fax picture and info. today. Her e-mail is secr.chancellerie@diocesedesherbrooke. Tried this e-mail and came back will have to phone tomorrow, Joseph Cote does not seem to be "our" family member.
Dec. 7 - Sister Jean Rooney, Archives Dept. of Mount St. Joseph, Peterborough, Ont. sent package with quite a bit of documentation inc. name, birth info. for Father Art. Information notes he went to St. Anthony church in New Orleans as a Dominican Priest.
Noted events in his life were:
• Education. He attended St. Dominic's School and Lindsay Collegiate Institute. he went to Ottawa University and then to the Sulpician Seminary at Montreal. He joined the dominican Order at Columbus, Ohio, and became distinguished in postgraduate studies and later as a Professor of Philosophy and Education.
• Military Service: WW1. 186 National Archives of Canada reply re: military service record for RG150 Chaplain, Arthur Cote. Attained the rank of Captain.
• Ordination, 21 Jul 1912, Lindsay, Ops Township, Victoria County, Ontario. 187 Roman Catholic priest. When World War 1 broke out he joined the army and was a Captain Padre. He was in the Battle of Amiens in France. In this battle 900 soldiers went in and he was one of 33 to walk out alive.
